How long would it take to reach Australia from California by a motorboat?

Okay, say I was sailing on the highest speed, and I had enough supplies to make it to Perth from any dock in California. I just need a rough estimate of how long it would take.

  1. Depends on how fast you go.

    Depends on your fuel consumption.

    Depends on the route you are forced to navigate

    Depends on the weather

    Depends on the size of your boat

    Depends on how brave or stupid you are????

  2. depends on the cruising speed of the motorboat, how often it needs to stop for refuelling (and stocking up on water and food etc), currents etc. Too many variables there. Where in California will you sail from, and to which port in Australia (Perth will take much longer than say Brisbane)

  3. You can run some "guesstimates" by using the following equation:

    T = 60xD/S

    (T) is time in minutes.

    (D) is Distance in nautical miles

    (S) is speed in knots

    Example:

    If you travel 5 miles at 20 knots, how long will it take?

    T= 60xD/S

    T= 60x5/20

    T=300/20

    T=15 minutes

    All you need to do now is figure out how far it is from your port in California to the one in Australia. Now run some equations at various speeds and you'll be able to figure out how long each speed will take.  You'll need to convert minutes to days, hours and minutes in order to have the answers make any real sense.

  4. depends on course and speed

  5. Divide distance on avg cruise speed and you'll get approx time. (You know weather can be bad and you need to sleep sometimes anyway)

  6. depends on how big a motor you had and whether you went direct...
