my husband and I are talking about this becouse gas prices are so insane. his work is 20 miles from our house, so we are curious about how long it would take to ride a horse. we don't know anything about horses, there are horse farms in the next town over.

  1. At a walk, the average horse goes about 3-4 miles per hour.  Any other gait would either be uncomfortable (trot) or unsafe for inexperienced riders.

Where would he stable it once he gets there?

  2. A walking horse gets approx 4 mph. Gonna be late for work ?

  3. biking will be better

  4. Lol. I've often though of doing the same thing! However, your husband would be better off with the car. Feed for a horse will run you well over $200 a month, farrier bills another $100+ every 4-6 weeks, boarding costs are as expensive as a small apartment, somewhere around $500, ballpark, plus vet bills which can run into the thousands, never mind riding clothes, tack and grooming supplies. While horses can run up to 50 mph, the average speed for a walk is 3-4 mph. There's more info about how fast a horse can go at this website http://www.ultimatehorsesite.com/info/ho... Also, one would need a place to turn the horse out while they were in work. Also, if you don't know how to ride, factor in riding lessons, which will set you back another 200 a month. So yeah, better off with the car?

  5. hahaha thats sooo funny.

im only a teenager but have to pay for my own gas.

i got a job just to keep the car going !
