A few extra lb to lose and starting from absolute scratch. I did a fast 5k walk yesterday and am now thinking of training for a 10k run (all in aid of Cancer Research).

  1. Depending on your starting fitness and stamina, and youir goal (for example, run the whole thing or run-walk it), 6 to 8 weeks with some commitment.

If you can fast walk 5km, I guess that you could also fast walk 10km as well, so all you have to work on is the speed - from walk to run. Look at the cancer research website, they have 10km training plans that you can follow: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/10k/your...

  2. To safely train for a 10k from scratch I would give it about 3 1/2 -4 months.
