it really depends on what kind of train you are taking....

if you take a normal train it would take you about 4 hours

if you take a TGV (a fast train) then it would take you 2... TVGs are more expensive though

Cannes-Paris: 5hrs05

It goes fast between Paris and Marseille (530 miles in 3 hours) but slows down along the Riviera because there are no high speed tracks there (125 miles in 2 hours) and the train may stop at a few towns before Cannes.
