How long would you expect it to take to replace a fire hydrant?

Depending on if the City had the new hydrant and the crew to install it, could be two weeks to 6 months. Hydrants have their own shut-off valve so your service will not be shut off during the repair.

I would expect it to take only a few hours once the construction crew arrives. But I wouldn't be surprised if it took 6 months or longer after reporting a malfunctioning hydrant before the city or county approved the repair, purchased the required materials, and scheduled a crew to do the work.

Smaller cites may not have replacements on hand, they would have to be ordered and shipped. This could take a few weeks.

The hydrants should have a shut off, so your water service would not be interrupted.
