How long would you expect it to take to replace a fire hydrant?

and also would you expect to recieve notice from your city before such scheduled matence take place and all your water is turned off?

  1. Depending on if the City had the new hydrant and the crew to install it, could be two weeks to 6 months. Hydrants have their own shut-off valve so your service will not be shut off during the repair.


  2. I would expect it to take only a few hours once the construction crew arrives. But I wouldn't be surprised if it took 6 months or longer after reporting a malfunctioning hydrant before the city or county approved the repair, purchased the required materials, and scheduled a crew to do the work.  

  3. Smaller cites may not have replacements on hand, they would have to be ordered and shipped. This could take a few weeks.

    The hydrants should have a shut off, so your water service would not be interrupted.
