have good experience on your resume?

I just started a MF OPS (JCL batch) position at the end of June, and I can't stand the people that I work with. I HATE THEM! I want to know how long do I need to endure this horrendous environment to count as good experience on my resume. I love the physical job, it's just the people are terrible.

  1. Minimum stay-you would want a year. But it would be better if it were two or more. Otherwise, it will look like you just skip out on jobs. A hiring manager would always want to know why you left too, and it wouldn't be good to say because you didn't get along with others-it would look like you have a problem getting along well with others. You would have to say something like "I'm looking for a career with more advancement opportunities" blah blah blah


  2. you need to tough it out for at least a year or 2  depending in your experience in this field. I do not know your age however  you need to develop a thick skin and if the pay is good you must overcome the people.

    De stress after work- take yoga train your mind and body to endure.


  3. If you're good at the job, and if you like it, don't sweat the people. There are always going to be people you don't like. You have to learn to live with it.

    If you do an incredible job, maybe you'll shortly be in a supervisory position over the people with whom you're having problems. Then you won't have to like them any more... they'll have to get along with you.

    My guess this is one of your first jobs... if not the first. If you walk within the first year or so... without a promotion, were I looking at your resume, I'd ask why. "I didn't get along with my coworkers" isn't what I'm going to want to hear.

    If your evaluations are very good, I'd wait at least six months -- a year or more would be better. Then I'd get my resume out and with respect to references ask they not contact your current employer until they're ready to hire you. Most companies will understand and honor that request.

    It also depends on your situation. If you're a direct hire, you will want to wait longer than if you're on contract -- and I've only had a couple of contracts that were for less than a year. I was offered one for three months once -- with no guarantee of further employment -- and I turned down the offer.
