I have some surround sound speakers for my computer but I don't know how loud they can go without damaging them because of how loud my computer can go. The box says 70 watts rms power and 140 watts peak power.

  1. gradually increase the volume to a comfortable listening level.

it's all contingent on the power output of your power amp. I'm assuming you have a sound card , which in most cases has its own audio screen with multiple options to tailor the output signal to the input of your power amp. or receiver..In most cases the sound will be distorted just before it's time to buy a new set of speakers.

The rms spec. of your speakers indicates fairly small speakers. There's also the ohm spec 4ohm, 6ohm, 8ohm, which alter the power output to drive your speakers.

  2. They can go louder than you need to them to go so don't worry about it and it depends on your sound card anyway to maintain quality and correct frequencies at high volumes

  3. try putting the volume up as high as it can go.

that'll tell you how loud it goes.

  4. You can tell by the way they sound.  When its loud enough that it doesn;t sound like it would at normal levels it is probably too much.  Besides who would want to listen to distorted/popping sound anyway.

  5. Go till they blow

  6. Gradually put the volume on the speakers higher until you notice the sound becoming either staticy or distorted. When you reach that point turn them a bit lower until you no longer get any distortion or static and that is how loud your speakers can go without damaging them.
