  1. beg

  2. I agree with others here that you should know the prevailing price before you go to the dealership.

Forewarned is forearmed, as they say. Here's a site from which you can get free quotes on car prices:

  3. If he says no. Give him your phone number and walk away. If he wants to sell the car he'll stop you or call you an hour or two later. I do it. It does work unless it is a car in high demand like a Honda or something.

  4. Go in knowing the invoice and shoot them something reasonable, they have to make money too- remember this!

Check out the invoice price on a site like www.driverside.com  and then figure out in your mind what you would accept if you were on the other end of the situation.

    Good luck!

  5. It totally depends on the car and it's impossible for you to know exactly how low they can go.  It depends if it's new or used and if they have had to put any money into the car.  Start by asking what their best price is, no bs.  You can negotiate for awhile back and forth. If you're not happy with their lowest price, maybe ask them to throw in a few little extras, like car mats or roof racks...

  6. After working at a car dealership and seeing our salesmen negotiate, I'd say be very firm in what you are willing to pay.  If they need the sale bad enough, they will bend, especially in today's market.  If you don't get what you want, go elsewhere.  Cars are marked up so much it is pathetic.

  7. Generally the markup on new cars today is about 8 percent or so depending on the price of the unit.  The more expensive the car the more markup.  No the markup is not insane here is a guide for you.  Obtain the invoice price off of the web and go in and make reasonable offer.  Try to buy the thing locally because if you need service or help with anything it will be to your advantage to have friends close by.  if you save 300 bucks by going 80 miles to buy it will cost more that that in time and gas to revisit them for service or any concerns.  Good luck
