  1. 648 bricks

  2. How deep is the wall? assuming a double layer, or else it would be unstable.

You left out one of the dimensions of the brick. I'll assume 4x4x8

    volume wall is 24 x 6 x 8/12 = 96 ft³ = 165888 in³

    A brick is 4x4x8 = 128 in³

    divide the two, 165888 / 128 = 1296 bricks

But as I'm guessing at the two numbers you left out, it could be anything.

    .

  3. Assuming the face of the brick is 4 x 8 and the width is sufficient to build a self supporting wall of the size you want, it would take 586 1/2  bricks.  Here's how to figure it:

The bottom layer (course) is 4" plus a mortar joint (3/8" is standard for brick veneer wall joints) so now you're up to 4 3/8".  The next course takes you to 4 3/8" + 4 3/8" = 8 3/4".  Keep figuring like this and you will see that it takes 17 layers (courses) to get up to 74 3/8".  This is 2 3/8" greater than 6 feet but if you needed exactly 6 feet high you would set your footing 2 3/8" lower.  So you have 17 bricks high.  Now to figure how many wide.

Your first brick is 8" wide plus a 3/8" mortar joint, the second takes you to 8 3/8" + 8 3/8" = 16 3/4".  Keep figuring this way until you get to the last brick.  It does not have a mortar joint. At the mortar end of the 34th brick you are at 284 3/4" ( = 23'  8 3/4").  Now cut the last brick in half and you are at 288 3/4" ( = 24' 3/4").  So you need 34.5 bricks to make the width of your wall.  Use the half brick to start the next course, this will offset the joints from course to course the way they should be.

So the bottom line is it takes 17 courses x 34.5 bricks/course = 586.5 bricks to build your wall.

  4. From the above information, you can only calculate "area" between the bricks and the wall. What is really needed is the volume of the bricks and that of the wall.

Using the above information: the area of the brick is 4" x 8" = 32 in^2

    The area of the wall is (6' x 12") x (24' x 12") = 20,736 in^2

    The number of bricks requred is: 20,736 / 32 = 648
