There are many different estimates, and i'm not sure, but i think it was 2.5 million.  About 1.5 million were killed during the genocide

Probably for the same reason more than 523,000 Turks were killed by Armenians in Turkey between 1910 and 1922.

Europe has used Armenians as a tool in extension of their policies over Turkey, for which both Turks and Armenians suffered but it is more viable to play the Armenian card for their purposes without verifying it.  But they don't overdo the card thing and stand in outrage though because it wouldn't be good for their own interests.  That doesn't necessarily mean they buy into the "genocide" story, it is all politics and clashes between civilizations.
