How many CC's do I need in a scooter to climb steep hills?

I am a student at UC-Berkeley and recently moved in to a new apartment at the top of a very steep and high hill. I am looking to buy a scooter for the commute yet I don't know how many cc's I need just to make it up and down the hill. I do not plan on driving it on the freeway, just to scoot around town and up and down the hill.

  1. 848cc

  2. The bigger the CC the quicker you'll get up to that Berkeley hills!  Personally, I would recommend a motorcycle with anything over 600CC.

  3. 150cc scooter will do it.  A well-built one (Kymco, for instance) can climb smaller moutain roads, so any steep city street shouldn't be a problem.

  4. At least 150cc.

  5. 200ish

  6. A 50cc will do it.

No local authority builds a road so steep that any vehicle expected to be on it can't actually use it.

Since 50cc scooters exist then it's fair to say the road will be built to allow them to do so.

It might be slow, it might struggle a little but it will get up it.

  8. All depends on your weight, angle of the hill, engine displacement, weather, and wind.

Get a motorcycle, like a 250cc entry level bike. That way you can select what gear to be in so you can actually climb the hill, instead of wearing the h**l out of the scooters auto-transmission. You will get more respect on it too, scooters are lame, and for old people.
