  1. Comfortably, maybe about one. I recommend getting a cage topper to make it taller. Degus are climbers/ jumpers, and love hammocks, perches, ledges, and just being above everything. Height is the main factor in a degu cage, followed by length and width. Aside from it being metal or glass, rather than plastic, since degus chew, chew, chew!

I built a cage for my 8 girls, and it's 6ft tall, 14 inch wide, and 40in long, and they are in love. I plan on building one for my boys, but they're fine in the one they're in now, since there's only four of them. x3

    Good luck.

  2. Those dimensions are neither tall enough or wide enough for even one degu.  They need at least 30 inches or more in  height because they love jumping and need several levels (safe wooden shelving).  Also degus should not be kept in a glass tank if it can be avoided unless there is a wire or mesh section attached to the top so they can escape from the glass enclosure when they need to.  Even in mild summer temperatures, the glass tank can become extremely warm (greenhouse effect) and degus are commonly at risk for heat stroke.

  3. no more than 3. have fun with your new rodents! :]

  4. i have the same size tank literaly dead same size 3ft fish tank i keep 6 gerbils in that although 4 of them are babies so and there smaller then degus i would  day no more then 3
