Question:

How many Dollars/Euros would I likely spend in Ireland?

Hi! I'm leaving to Ireland through Contiki Tours for 8 days, breakfast and transportation around Ireland is provided. We just need to cover dinners, going out at night, souvenirs and transportation from Dublin airport to and from hotel.

Can you give me an idea of how many Euros/Dollars (please specify which you are referring to) will I need? I want to have a good time but don't plan on spending or buying too much.

Where do you recommend I go for dinners, at pubs?

What is the best souvenir/memento to bring home?

I know this can be a very generalized question so I thank everyone for your responses.

  1. im from ireland and its very expensive the drink are very expensive bring about $2000

  2. base it on 150/200 euros a day.that way you'll have fun and not need to worry about cash, last thing you need on hoiday is to worry about money.enjoy Ireland its fantastic

  3. In general a pint is about 4 or 5 euro in Ireland depending on what you drink and where you drink it. It costs about 10 euro to get into a club, maybe more at the weekends and less during the week. The cheapest you can hope to pay for dinner is about 10 euro, expect to pay about 20-25 for a steak in a more upmarket place though.

Taxi is a difficult one to call as I don't know what distance you are travelling. It is 95 cent off peak and 1.25 on peak per kilometre (0.62 miles) and about 1 euro per extra passenger, bags etc.

I cant tell you how much to bring but maybe this will give you an idea.

  4. Well Dublin is one of the most expensive cities in th world.. a title it well deserves! :) but believe me it's worth it. I live in dublin so i'll give you and average breakdown for prices.

Taxi: from the airport to the city centre should cost you about 20euro there is a bus that last time i got it cost about 7 euro's this may be different now but it drops you off on o' connell st (the main city centre street)

Taxi's around the city obviuosly depend on how far you are going and where you are staying.

Food: Food in restaurants can be expensive. averageing about 25 euro per meal. I recommend that you try "pub grub"  go to your nearest pub and get yourself a roast lunch covered and drowned in gravy! other restuarants that i love in the city are yammamori (the best japenese food in ireland lunch meals average at about 10-15 euro and dinner is double that)

if you want cheap chinese food try Parnell st there are lots of chinese restaurants at a reasonable price

Going out at night will probably be your biggest expense (well it's mine anyway! :D )  a pint usually costs about 5euro and if you want to keep up with the locals thats a lot of pints, drinks are usually about the same or more expensive.

If you want to try a pint of guinness maybe you should do the guinness brew house tour i can't remeber how much this costs but this information ca be found on the net. Temple bar is the place to go out in dublin. it is a place devouted to pubs clubs and restaurants.. but watch out for the cobble stones if your wearing heels! a night out could cost min of about 50euro each. I also recommend Doyles pub just off Trinity college... they do a nice pint of guinness. You should also try t go to an irish music session your tour may arrange this but if not you can catch one n howth, or on talbot street or if your lucky catch and impromptu session in a pub with the locals!

Souvenirs: well Carrolls gift shops are all over dublin and offer reasonable priced traditional irsih souvenirs also if your in to irish music or want to bring home a traditional irish instrument you should try Walton's Music, they have two stors in dublin and specialise in their own brand of irish tin whistles and bodhrans(an irish drum) you can even pick up a learners guide and bring a skill home from Eire aswell! :)

General shopping: clothes etc are expensive in ireland so if you want to shop i recommend you bring a lot of extra cash!

  5. You will need at least 50 - 60  Euros per day. Dinner at pubs is a good idea, probably costs 10-12 euros if you eat modestly - much more in a restaurant. Ireland is quite expensive, particularly Dublin. Ireland is a great place, the people are lovely and there is a lot to see. Don't know about souvenirs - just see what catches your eye.

  6. The taxi from the airport is about €20, or you can get the bus for €5

You should be able to get a room in a city centre Dublin hotel for approx €140, but there are some hotels near the airport but I doubt if they'd be any cheaper.

You can get good cheap meals in the pub for about €15, eating in restaurants can be quite expensive.

Drink is approx €5 a pint, more for shorts, so how many would you have in a night?

Remember you don't have to tip the bar men here, and you don't have to leave 15% tip for your food either.

I can't tell you what type of souvenir you would like, I know i have some bad ones in my home, thanks to my mother!! I don't tend to buy them myself, except for the odd fridge magnet.  But I suppose see what you enjoy while your here, and I'm sure you'll find something to spark you memories once your home.  Go to Carrolls, they're cheap and cheerful, some of the other places are a complete rip off.

I'd say bring about €150- €200 per day spends and you should be grand. (or Ok as you would say) You could even have some cash left for Duty free on your way home!!

    Have a great trip!

  7. You could probably get by on €750 but if you want to push the boat out and dine well, take in shows, splash out a bit take at least€1,500

    Souvenir:a Bodhrán

  8. Its a very expensive country so you would need a fair bit, I'd say the max amount you're likely to spend on food in one day is €30-€40 per person, thats aside from fancy restaurants. On an average night out if you drink a little you could spend say €30 on drink, if you drink a lot then anywhere from €50 onwards. From Dublin airport you can get the aircoach

    http://www.aircoach.ie/

straight to Dublin, then from Dublin to your hotel you can get a train, bus, luas (tram type thingy) or taxi. Public transport wouldnt cost more than €2 or €3. I wouldnt go buying loads of souvenirs from fancy souvenir places, they rip you off, go into pound shops, and nicknack shops get tshirts, hats, books, little trinkets etc etc. something green with a leprechaun on it. Try ration your money because it is completely possible to spend hundreds and hundreds in one day without realising it!!

  9. since you have transportation and lodgings arranged, it depends on how much you want to spend on drinking when you go out. I usually take about 20 euro a day when I go there, and maybe extra for nights out. It all depends on how luxurious you like your holidays, and how much you want to go out. A lot of clubs charge a fee before they even let you in, which in my experience is usually about 10 euro, so if you're going out every night, you'll need a lot of money, and if you don't, you can go it pretty cheap.

    Good luck.

Going to Ireland again next summer, staying in a hostel, got cheap flights, will take the train over to Sligo and I'm thinking that with the flights and the hostel I've booked, I'll have a complete holiday for €500 all in - beat that!
