  1. Hi y-toc re-llim

The number of hard disks that you can attach with a computer depends upon the SATA/PATA/USB ports available on the system-board. Normally, two IDE ports are present, and two hard disks can be attached with each of them, thereby making a total of four disks. (This changes from system to system, however.)

As for the letters, these are for the drives/partitions that you make on your hard disks, and not for the full hard disks. For example, you can partition a hard disk into 3 parts (means, divide its total capacity of, say, 160GB, into 3 parts of, say 20GB, 100GB, and 40GB), and name the drives formed as "C:\", "D:\", and "E:\".

  2. Yes, you can have 152 SCSI hard drives connected to a computer.

Originally, using Windows NT4, you could only connect 38, but this was increased by a service pack release.

Note that the letters are used for all drives on a computer.

A & B are reserved for floppy drives and C is designated as the boot drive. Optical drives also have letter designations.
