How many Illegal immigrants in the UK? Is this as wrong as it looks?

Found this from a link the Home Offices new 'pro ID card' site.

(As at 2001...)

Says there were just about 3.1 million legal 'foreign born' - then says that the census said there were about 3.6 million 'foregn born' in the country, so there must be about (3.6-3.1)= .5 million (500,000) illegals...

However a quick check of the census data at

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=1312

Says that there were 4.9 million foreign born in 2001, thats a lot higher than 3.6 million the home office claimed...

So shouldn't their figures should say there were 1.8 million illegals in 2001 - not the .5 million claimed?

Could they get it so wrong?

Maybe the old GB or UK or England plus or minus hundreds of distant islands question is part of this discrepency - also, remember that not everyone fills in their census forms. And, some who are foreign born have UK citizenship, some always have had (eg whites in Rhodesia), I'm sure this is part of the issue too, and some who have applied for leave to remain are not illegal because they have not had a final response yet. ...

born in the UK,are not from British

parents !!!!

Bearing in mind that the africans

& asians drop about 4-5 kids

in their lifetime,that means we

No. The stats at stats.gov are probably either more up to date or they are calculated. What you are seeing is the results of massive illegal migration from foreign countries since 2001. You're trying to compare two different kinds of apples.

Note: as a US citizen, I sympathize with you and I really grieve that a nation that has been Anglo-Saxon for most of 1000 years has allowed itself to be over run by peoples of other nations without the force of arms. What has happened to national pride?!!!!!
