  1. It just depends what type of music teacher you want to be ...... you dont have to learn any instruments to become a teach ...... you can teach about music and differrent styles throughout history and not know how to play an instrument ........ = )

  2. That depends on the form of music teacher you want to be.

There are some that teach a single instrument, some that teach no instruments at all (like those that teach in elementary school or choir teachers), and there are some that deal with multiple instruments.

You need to figure out, or at least have some idea, what you want to teach. Once you do that, you can figure out what instruments to learn.

  3. Wouldn't it depend upon what you were teaching?

If you mean school music teacher, then I would think piano, guitar, violin and flute would be required.

  4. It depends on what age level you will teach and where you will be teaching.  If you're teaching elementary school, it's more important that you can engage the kids and have good rhythm.  If you're in a small high school, you may end up teaching band and chorus and would need to know how to play a lot more.

Hands down, you will need to know how to play piano.  Good vocal abilities are also important.

Beyond that, if you're going to be teaching band or orchestra, you should at least be able to play scales on every instrument.

If you already are good at one instrument but don't want to learn others, you might consider becoming a private teacher.  Some schools actually hire music teachers to teach private lessons, usually piano.

  5. You basically have to have a beginners technique to teach first timers.

  6. None.  You're teaching about music, not how to play a musical instrument.
