  1. The comments about your engine exploding aren't really on track, since you don't use an internal combustion motor when burning rocket fuel.  You'd simply need a way to mix the chemicals in stoichiometric ratio and a means of directing the resulting energy release, such as a cone.

Rocket fuel is basically two chemicals which, when mixed, react so violently as to release tremendous amounts of energy.  There are solid and liquid fuels, both having unique characteristics making them better in certain situations.  Thrust is created by channeling the energy release to provide a reactionary propulsion effect.  When the fuel burns out the cone opening, it forces the opposite end of the vehicle to move forward.

The main problem with rocket engines is the heat and flame produced by the reaction.  You can't really have vehicles blasting flames out the back and and the hazards associated with accidents are too great to seriously consider everyday use.  There's also the issue of efficiency, since any energy not involved in moving the vehicle forward is wasted and once you start the flow of fuel in a rocket, it's an all or nothing effect.  You have zero or 100% acceleration.

  2. 0 your pistons would shoot through the engine head

  3. Well, try it, IDK about you but I will find out how it went on the 5 o'clock news....

  4. More like gallons per mile to pick up all the parts and to transport you to the funeral parlor.

  5. Whatever MPG you get out of the tow truck that will pick up what's left of your car after you start the engine.
