How many Mb/ps should my network cable connecting my router to my ps3 be?

I have a cable that is 100mb/ps and 250mb/ps, does it make a difference?

  1. Both will work fine.

    Here is why:

    I assume you want to connect your PS3 to the internet through your router. If you have a regular cable modem (e.g. with Verizon, ATT) your connection speed is probably ~5-25 Mb/ps what is way below what your cable can handle.

    Even if you want to stream HD video through your router to the PS3 you will not require more than ~50Mb/ps maximum.

    In summary... whatever you want to do, both cables have better specs than you need and you will not notice any difference.

    (Note: It does make a tiny difference because you will have a smaller error rate in data transmission when using the 250mb/ps cable. THis difference is so small though that you will probably never notice)


  2. They are probably both marked Cat5e or Cat 6.. you can use either.
