  1. It depends on the version of WWTBAM you're talking about. On the ABC primetime version hosted by Regis Philbin, 7 people have won the 1M prize (John Carpenter, Dan Blonsky, Joe Trela, Bob House, Kim Hunt, David Goodman & Bernie Cullen..in that order), but 2 others on the same version won a progressively-increasing jackpot on top of the 1 million. In early 2001, the show decided to add an extra 10K to the 1M prize, for every episode that went without a top winner. (Their last winner was in summer 2000) The prize was finally won by Kevin Olmstead in April 2001, he won 2.18M. Then in September 2001 Ed Toutant won 1.86M; he was ruled incorrect on a show earlier that year, but the producers went back and saw that there were no right answers in his question he "lost" on, so they invited him back and since the inflated prize was intact when he was bounced, they let him play where he left off with the 1.86M jackpot he ended up winning! In early 2004 ABC had a really brief "Super MIllionaire", that had a top prize of 10M that nobody won; however a guy named Robert ("Bob-O") Essig won 1M. Regis also hosted that edition.

On the current syndicated version of WWTBAM, hosted by Meredith Vieira usually (but with sub hosts at times, now with Vieira doing "Today"), there have only been 2 1M winners thus far. Kevin Smith and Nancy Christy (the only woman to win 1M in US) both won the top prize in 2003. Someone else needs to hurry up and win it again

  2. I think between 2-3

  3. There have only been about eleven people to win the Million dollar prize on the american version of the show.  The first winner won in 1999, the last back in 2003.
