Question:

How many NASCAR drivers have been to college?

We discussed this at my house during commercials last night. I know Ryan Newman graduated from college, and I think Carl Edwards did, too. But we couldn't think of any others. Are there any others who have at least *been*?

I know most crew chiefs have at least been to college and many crew members are recruited through college sports teams.

  1. The only one I really hear about is Ryan Newman. He majored in Engineering at Purdue, so he must be pretty smart.

  2. Most drivers don't go to college because their lives are consumed by racing.  They don't have time or money to attend college.  I know Kasey Kahne graduated high school early to devote himself to his racing career.

    Some other college grads/attendees:

Elliott Sadler (he had a basketball scholarship and had a knee injury that ended his bball career- moving him back to auto racing)

    Hermie Sadler

    Ward Burton

    Brett Bodine

  3. Don't forget Chad Little who has a law degree and drove the John Deer (I think Ford) back in the late 1990's.

  4. Dale Earnhardt Jr went too. He went for a mechanics degree and graduated, thats why he worked at his dad's Chevrolet dealer for a while before he started racing.

  5. Yeah, apparently Newman is the only college graduate driver in the garage, although Carl Edwards is two semesters away from his degree.
