How many NFL players have died due to on-field injuries?

Question

I'm doing a little research for my sports injury management class and I need to know specifically football related deaths in the NFL due to some on-field incident. I don't mean dead on the field but dead due to the injury suffered. I realze there may be several, but all I really need is a name and a team name.

Or a website with any such facts would be helpful, thanks!

I dont think anyone died because of a hard hit. There were some career ending injuries that probably affected them but i dont think anyone died because of playing football.

i think one guy died a while ago due to a head on collision and he died later in hospital.

There was a Viking player who died at training camp a few years ago because of heat exhaustion.  Other then that I'm not sure.

Kory Stringer played for the Minnesota Vikings and died of a heat stroke after practice back in 2000 or 2001.

Thomas Herrion played for the San Francisco 49ers and died in a Denver hospital after a preseason game with the Denver Broncos back in 2005.

There have been more but those are the only two that I can think of at this time.

AL Lucas an AFL player for the LA Avengers died in a hospital as a result of an on-field injury.
