How many OS are there?

I know there's PC, Mac, Linux,..... what else?

OS stands for Operation System software.  A PC is not an OS.  A MAC is not an OS.

Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Window XP, Vista

MAC OS

UNIX

SUN OS

Linux

And they all have numberous flavors and versions.  The total number is quite large.  Maybe 200+.

those are the main platforms but there are many branches of linux/unix like ubuntu, solaris, mandrake etc.

There are more than you will ever be able to hear about.

There are hundreds of different windows versions.

There is Linux, but depending on how you see distributions, you can consider it as thousands of different OS.

MAC OS is another option, based on another OS named Darwin, which, in turn, is based on the BSD system (another OS). The BSD also inspired the Open BSD, the Free BSD and a dozen of other BSD systems.

We have Minix, an OS for learning purposes, and there are thousands of others like it.

Solaris, HPux, and several others are used on some servers arround there servers.

There a millions on embedded OS. For example, Nintendo Wii has an OS. Amazon Kindle has an OS, Even some house utensils may have OS inside.

Resuming, there are more OS there than anyone will ever be able to count.
