How many PGA professionals,past and present,have done time in the armed services?

  1. As many as there are golfers that eat SOS.


  2. I can think of several off hand. There surely are many, many more.

    Arnold Palmer served in the Coast Guard.

    Two time major winner Larry Nelson served in Vietnam.

    Ben Hogan served in WWII, as did most golfers of that generation. One notable, Byron Nelson, did not, due to his hemophilia.

    Tommy Armour (the original) served in the tank corps of Britain during WWI.

    I'm also fairly certain that Nick Price (Zimbabwe), Ernie Els and Retief Goosen (South Africa) also served as a result of national service requirements in their respective countries.
