  1. Before the race on the pace lap, the pace car will go the pit road speed for a lap.  When this is happening the drivers radio to the crew what gear they are in and what RPM it is (i.e. 3400 2nd gear).  This is the number they will use for the rest of the race to keep them under the speed limit.

  2. That sounds like a good question for "Larry Mac"

  3. depends on which gear they are in . pit speed depends on how much room there  is on that pit road .each track is different.

  4. That depends on what gear they have it in and what gear ratios they are using at the track. For lower gear ratios they would have to do more RPMs to maintain a 55 MPH pit road speed. For higher gear ratios they would have to turn less rpms to maintain a 55 MPH pit road speed.

But you already know that. I know you know. You know?

  5. No way to tell.  It depends on the details of the transmission, and the rear axle -- and on what gear the driver has shifted into.  In my old VW Beetle, the ratios between engine speeds and vehicle speeds were 220, 120, 75, and 50; when going 55 in 4th gear, the RPM would be 2750.

  6. it depends on what gear they're running in the rear end

    and what track they're at

    usually short tracks 35mph

    med.45mph

    super 55mph
