I am going to be going out at 4:00AM tomorrow morning because it was raining out this morning to see the peak. So tomorrow is Aug 13th and the peak was 12th. I live in a fairly dark sky with a rating of Class 4. How many meteors per hour should I be able to see after the moon sets?

  1. If you're in a primo spot, maybe one per minute or a little less.

  2. The peak (3:00 UTC Aug 12) is estimated at 60 per hour, but that is just an estimate.  Most meteor showers taper off after peak - the Perseids continue until Aug 24, so another week or so before the number is down to normal background counts.

So the night after peak could still have up to 60 an hour, but more likely around 45 (my guess based on past showers).

  3. Wow someone did some research before asking a question (that deserves 10 extra points lol.)

You do not specify your location so I could not check your estimated hourly rate from Calsky, but you could do that- see link below, it should give you an estimate on the Calendar - it will list the ZHR (hourly rate overall and an estimate of that for your location.)

If you get any good photos you could submit them to the other site listed below.

    Happy hunting!

  4. I would guess 30 - 40.
