  1. Southern states on the Atlantic coast were former British colonies named after British monarchs:

Georgia (in honor of King George II)

North and South Carolina (in honor of Charles I, Carolus is Latin for Charles)

Virginia and West Virginia ( in honor of Queen Elizabeth I of England)

Maryland (in honor of Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of King Charles I)

  2. Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Louisiana, West Virginia

  3. Georgia, Lousiana, virgina,

  4. Virginia was named after the virgin queen, Queen Elizabeth I in the 1600s, Maryland, Queen Mary, and speaking of Virginia, there's actually a county named Prince William (probably after King William III or IV) and in Alaska there's a body of sea named Prince William sound, lol.

And I know a town in Virginia that used to be called Royal Oak (if that counts) now it's named after Francis Marion from the Civil War.
