  1. I tried to google Ireland crime statistics, but came up with nothing good, but maybe if you try an advanced search youll come up with something

  2. A lot ,but the Rate is slowly going Down as the Detection Rate is going up. It is frowned on  a lot not like the bad old Days when it was Traditional to Down 10 Pints and a couple of Whiskeys and then Drive Home. A lot of these Old timers had a good Tolerance to Drink, and you would not even know they had been drinking. I was often driven Home from Pub Sessions and there was a Gang in Some Old tossers Car and He was driving them all Home and not a bother out of him. But  it is not the done thing now, this was about 30Years ago now in the 1970ties. A lot of Accidents are caused by Tiredness , people driving Home very late at Night or early Morning crashing into Walls  ETC. People Speeding , mostly Young People and  OlderTossers in BMWS.

  3. too many. same as everywhere else.

  4. Alcohol plays a part in four out of 10 traffic deaths in Ireland, says the government's National Safety Council.

Council officials say 22 of the 55 people killed on the road in three rural counties had alcohol in their blood. Most of them were men in their 20s.

Officials also say drunk walking is a big problem in Ireland – four of the 10 pedestrians killed by vehicles in the council's study had high blood-alcohol readings.

Police say they arrest about 250 motorists a week for suspected drunk driving, creating a backlog in the courts. In 2001, 6,790 people were convicted of drunk driving, but just 3,060 were convicted last year. This is despite an increase in the number of arrests.

The Irish have increased their alcohol consumption during the past 10 years of economic boom. The country has one bar for every 350 people.

  5. There are good statistical reports on the accidents in the Republic of Ireland at the link below.  However, it should be noted that "ireland" is still divided into to countries by the British government and the Northern Ireland statistics are contained in a separate government website run by the British government.

It should be noted to argue against one of your "answerers" that NORTHERN Ireland actually has MORE drunk driving fatalities per capita than the Republic of Ireland each year.  For example, in 2005, there were 7.9 deaths per 100,000 of the population in NORTHERN Ireland, compared to just 5.5 in the Republic of Ireland.  I guess the old adage that the "Irish" are drunks, should be changed to the "Brits are drunks".  Cheers
