  1. it takes 10 acres to properly layout , grade and plane a HALF MILE track, which is what 92% of the county fair ground tracks are in America.

now a mile track takes 60 (yes) acres. In fact you can place a half mile track set at an angle in side the infield of a mile track, as there is at the famous RED MILE racetrack at Lexington, Kentucky

You cancontact the various tracks, or more quickly the Daily Racing Form, which lists the lenght of the home stretch at all T bred tracks.

additionally you can contact the Jockey Club, the T bred governing board, who has answered this question many times. Or you can contact the U STrotting Association, in Columbus Oh. which has supplied the answer even more offen.

there are also a lot of harness tracks which are 5/8th or three turns to a mile. there are 3 3/4 mile tracks left, the most well known would be Vernon downs racetrack in New York state.

there are 3 7/8 tracks, one is Sportsmens in Chicago.

Ohio had a 9/16th at Toledo Raceway Park before it was rebulit to a 5/8th.

the two most unusual tracks I know of are a 1/3 county fair track in pennsylvannia, where they may no longer race, check with the USTA or the Pennsylvannia Agriculturail Commission. and the very esoteric "kite track' in Iowa.

you now have far more information than you may have wanted, so good luck in what ever you do.
