Just to clarify...I'm asking for bow hunting only. I know more acres are required otherwise.

  1. Recently some kids target shooting with a .223 accidently killed a man sitting on a lawn chair in a nearby trailer park.  They were charged because they discharged a firearm beyond their property line.  This was in Texas.  So use common sense.  Essentially I agree with Tara's answer about acreage limitations, what's too little half and acre, an acre?  Hard to tell so let common sense be your guide.  I've successfully rifle hunted on less than forty acres in Texas.  This year I'll be hunting in around a hundred acres which is more than enough.  Note, I've hunted on a square mile of land (640 acres) & MORE.  You really never cover more than say sixty acres per hunter unless you have a whole lot of open range.

  2. It's really not a factor when gun hunting either because it's not illegal for you bullet to land on someone elses property.  If you got deer passing thru, then you should hunt.

  3. You just don't need much to bow hunt-if the deer are passing through, you could do it on less then an acre.

  4. There is no set amount of acres to do any kind of hunting in Texas.

According to the State of Texas - bow hunting is done at a much closer range and requires a high degree of stealth, perserverance, patience and effort. Bowhunters must become adept at scouting, tracking and recovering game. Bowhunters must master new archery techniques and learn the anatomy and behavior of the game. Before attempting to use archery equipment as a hunting tool, each bowhunter should become a proficient archer. This requires dedication, practice and good distance-judging ability.

Texas bowhunters have the opportunity for additional training through a special course offered by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department through the International Bowhunting Education Program and the National Bowhunting Education Foundation.

Most hunters in Texas hunt on a hunting lease - or on private property  .. however, Texas does offer alternative places.

  5. If you are fortunate enough to have an active game trail on your property, you need only enough land to put up a blind.  Of course, if you shoot a deer on someone else's property or the deer that you shoot ends up an someone else's property, you will need to have their permission to retrieve your deer.  As far as safety is concerned, you need to make sure that your arrows will not endanger anyone else.  Other than safety considerations and game retrieval considerations, you have no minimum land requirement.
