I'm curious about "global warming." How many acres of trees have been replanted in the world as opposed to how many have been cut down?

  1. I remember reading stats that say that there are more trees in North America now then there were in the 1800's. Remember, most replants plant at a 10 to 1 ratio. Also, almost all trees in cities are planted and not natural.

  2. That's kind of a hard question to answer. Today more trees are probably being planted than are being cut down (tree for tree). However, in this country we are still losing forest land at a fairly substantial rate. I work as an inventory forester and I collect data to determine how much forest land we are gaining or losing in the state of kentucky. Over the past 10 years kentucky has lost 1 million acres of forested land. The loss is mainly due to urbanization (building onto cities).  Once land is turned into a parking lot or a Wal-mart it is highly unlikly that it will ever be a forest again. To answer your actual acres of trees planted I would check the us forest service website, about.com (forestry), Arbor society, or just look up tree planting in US.

  3. not as much as have been cut down i think.
