How many additional details can one edit to a question before its classed as chat?

im violated at least once on the odd occasion im on here...what the h**l always makes me laugh...and tomorow, or in the morning when i check my freecycle ads the odd yahoo violation will be amongst them ...but laughter is medicine....

There isn't a specific amount of time you  may edit your question, as long as you are not doing so to address each respondent ( i.e. to chat)

Another example is like this:

(Q)  How can I turn off my computer?

additional details:

Oh, and I am using windows XP.

additional:

I did all of that and my computer is still not turning off. Does this mean I have a virus?

That would not be a violation.

Now, this is a violation:

(Q) My father beats me all the time. Should I complain to the cops about it?

additional details:  Good point, John.

additional details:  Yes, Stacy, you are hilarious.

additional details:  Kenny, you are very funny.

Bottom-line: as long as you are not editing your question to chat, you will be on the safe side.  Edit your question only to give a clearer understanding of what the problem is.

between me and you I had the same thing happen and when I looked at what I was trying too do well it was to chat and I stooped because that is not going to let me use this Q&A to my full advantage Now by asking the others questions they informed the steps to get e- mail and if, and I say IF  someone wants to reply too me they can now this has led too me getting better with my communication and I can ask those who I feel comfortable asking and not feel like my hands were tide for you see one is too at least be respectable while being here or they will shut you down so go through the steps and see how this might be a rewarding experience for us all, because really it's not cool being shut out
