Im making a small hut to escape away to on the weekends. I plan on making it somewhat livable too... Almost like a hobbit hole. I just need an estimate on how many bricks (like the size of cender blocks) it will take to make it... I need to start working on it.

  1. 10' X 10' X 6' tall would be 240 square feet of wall surface.  A cinder block is 8" tall by 16" long or about 0.9 square feet in surface area.  So without considering mortar joints or allowing for doors and windows you would need about 267 cinder blocks.  You could probably knock that down to about 250 if you plan on having 3 windows and a door opening.

Another way to determine it is to figure that for a height of 72" (6 feet) you would need 9 cinder blocks per stack (9 x 8" = 72", again disregarding mortar joint thickness).  Then you would need 7.5 (say 8) stacks for the 10 foot width (120"/16"=7.5).  So each wall would need about 72 blocks and 4 sides would need 288 blocks.

That way says you need a few more blocks, but at least it's in the same ballpark, but even more conservative.
