I'm 18 and I am just starting out with no credit. I just applied for about 5 credit cards. 3 of them I got rejected. How many applications would then be considered a red flag? Will I even get a red flag for applying to too many in about a 2 day span?

  1. You did get three, right?  Best stop now.  The hard inquiries stay on your credit report for 2 years.

  2. I don't  think an application per se will cause a red flag./

  3. You do not get a "red flag" for just applying for credit. What happens is that each time you apply, your credit score goes down a little bit. That is their way of telling you to stop applying.

  4. It depends on how many in a row.. and how often..

Buddy, your credit might be too low still. Give it three to six months worth of constantly making payments on things..i.e. cell phone, licence plates...

It only takes six months for you credit rating to start to improve so..  be patient. Then you can try again, even with those same companies that rejected you initially.
