I travel Edmonton to Fort St. John regularly and that is 7 hours on good roads.From Banff to Edmonton is about 3 hours.Edmonton to Dawson Creek 6 hours and then about and hour to Chetwynd.

So I believe it would take about 10 to 11 hours of driving.Hope this helps.

Going through Edmonton is taking the long way.  If you don't need to go to Edmonton for anything, you'd be better off going to Grande Prairie, then south through Grande Cache to Jasper and down to Banff from there.  Following that route should take 9-10 hours.  The highways are paved all along that route.
