We will soon witness our and other countries athletes doing their usual shameful act of putting themselves before the rights of anyone else.

The gifting of the games to China is a disgrace and it's time this bloody expensive propaganda exercise was removed from the face of the Earth.

If China cannot show themselves to be a civilised modern state and withdraw from Tibet then the world should shun these games and stop trading with them too!

  1. Yep. And until America withdraws it's troops from Iraq and Britain stops supporting them then we should boycott them too. And perhaps every other country that is or has been involved in a war that is unjust.......Actually I guess there would never be any sporting events if that happened.

  2. Oh come on. Pleeease. It's entirely up to each individual athlete what they think about China and whether they think the Olympics  should have anything to do with politics. What about other means of punishment? Why is it all about the Olympics? What about sanctions on trade, stopping tourism to China, diplomatic efforts in the foreign office etc? Critics can at least be consistent. No doubt China does abuse human rights. But so has the US and the West ever since they appeared in world history. And I'm not just talking ancient history. Maybe we can get our own house in order before feeling the need to point the finger at China, of whom we're extremely jealous.

  3. Most of them. How many will stand up and be counted - I wonder!

  4. I presume you have got rid of everything in your home that was made there, including the designer label gear people pay a fortune for.

Tibet was taken over in 1949, so if you feel so strongly about it, why has it taken you so long to notice!

Or are you like most people and expect others to do your protesting for you.

I guess you'll be boycotting the 2012 Games then and everything American or British? After-all we invaded Iraq!

    Sport shouldn't be about Politics!

  5. Agreed--not just in Tibet, but in all its claimed territory, China has for decades held no regard for human freedom or dignity.  For the Games to be held there--it is a disgrace.

  6. I couldn't agree with you more.

Unfortunatey because the Olympics are generally seen as apolitical it is unlikely that many athletes will boycot the games.  Personal glory will matter more to many Olympians than the attention which could be drawn to Chinas appaling human rights record if they chose to make a stand.

If I was head of the UK olympic comitee I would ban athletes from going - but then however I would be out of a job.

I respect Steven Speilberg for his decision to withdraw his endorsement from the games and I sincerely hope that others involved in the Olympics follow his lead

  7. I assume that if the States are awarded any kind of sporting competition you will be calling for a boycott of them as well.

They did after all invade 2 countries completely unlawfully and then subjected people to detention that they knew was so unlawful, they had to detain them 'off US territory' so as to avoid the laws of the United States.

  8. Did you see the Monks looting shops today. Beating the general public in the streets with bats.

Your talking out of your bum love.

  9. "Boycotts achieve absolutely nothing" - this is the right expression coming from the Head of the US Olympic association. Athletes and all sports persons should be honored for keeping the spirit of the Olympics alive; unlike the idiots and morons who wants to bash China. A jealous lot!! Civilised? I think not, they don't know the meaning of the word.

How civilised was it to kill 500,000 Iraqis because the Government had a hunch there were wmds there? 500,000 human being men, women children. Civilised? What a joke!!
