  1. The j**s made pearl harbour a state.

  2. The British attack on New Orleans after the War of 1812 ended.

There was the whole US Civil war.

The USS Maine was sunk in a Cuban harbor.

Poncho Via raided southern US during Mexican Civil war in the early 1900's

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941.

Japan attacked and took ground in the Aleutian islands of Alaska during WWII.

    The Oklahoma City bombing.

The 1st bombing of the World Trade Center.

The 9/11/01 attack on New York and the Pentagon.

    The Beirut embassy attack.

The Two US embassies in Africa on the same day.

  3. The Caroline Affair (1837-1842) began when, on the U.S. shore of the Niagara River near Buffalo, Canadian authorities seized and burned the American vessel Caroline.

April 12, 1861, the shelling of Ft Sumter by the Confederate States started the Civil War (1861-1865).

1846- Battle of Palo Alto, the first important engagement of the Mexican War, was fought, with the Mexicans on the losing side.

1846- Battle of Resaca de la Palma, U.S. forces under General Taylor forced the Mexican army back across the Rio Grande

1941 - Japan attacked Pearl Harbor (a US Territory) and invaded the Aleutian Islands (US Territory) and the Philippines (a US Protectorate).

Later in the war they performed 3 ineffective shellings on the California aand Oregon coasts from submarines, and launched thousands of incendiary balloons to the USA that killed 6 people and burned a few hundred acres.

1979 - Iranian Revolutionaries invaded the US Embassy in Tehran (hey, that is US SOIL !!)  Here is a further listing of attacks on US Diplomatic missions from 1971-2008: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorist_a...

AND of course, there have been hundreds of incursions or shots fired by the Mexican Army into the Southern USA.

  4. In addition to what mariner provided one of the Oregon attacks by the Japanese was by aircraft. It was carried on a special sub. It was to attempt to start a forest fire. It failed. One of the balloon bombs killed 2 people in WA state.

The Japanese occupied 2 Islands as well. Kiska and Attu. The 7th ID is the last Army Force to expel a foreign Army from US soil in May? 1943. They left Kiska after the loss on Attu. When the 7th landed the Island was sans Japanese.

My Dad was in Dutch Harbor for the diversionary attack during the Battle of Midway. He said the pilot that landed his Zero there could have captured them all if he had just pulled out his pistol. Dad claimed they were out of ammo.

  5. 2, pearl harbor and New York City 9/11

  6. Here are some additional attacks that i did not see listed.

In 1945, Japan launched balloons filled with explosives in an attempt to set the Pacific Northwest Timber lands on fire. Most never even came close to the U.S., but one did crash land on a beach in Oregon killing a woman that was having a picnic with here son and husband.

In 1916 Pancho Villa raided Columbus, New Mexico. An action that later caused deployment of the U.S. Army under General John J Pershing into Mexico.

  7. By "US Soil", does that also include American territories and colonies?

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, then US territory.

Japan then invaded the Philippines, a Commonwealth with the US and an American dependent territory.

Japan invaded the Aleutian Islands during WW2, then American territory (most of which is now part of Alaska).

If you want to include terrorist attacks too:

    - 1983 suicide attack on the American Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. Although Embassies are technically part of the host country's territory, the foreign diplomats inside run according to their country's own laws and policies. A bit iffy, but let's go on...

    - 1984 bomb attack on the American Embassy in Bogota, Colombia

    - 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Why people include the 2001 attacks and not this one is beyond me.

    - 1995 Oklahoma City bombing - perpetrated by an American, albeit a traitorous one. Another iffy one.

    - 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games pipe bombing

    - 1998 terrorist bombings of the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania

    - 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks

    ---

The War of 1812 is a bit iffy too - although technically on American soil, the fighting there were the results of British advances all the way from the north when the Americans invaded Canada over impressment and trade blockading.
