  1. To produce irrigation water from sea water you likely need reverse osmosis, pipes that go  say 100 metres into the ocean with a reverse osmosis membrane around the bottom. Inside the pipe is a pump that moves the  fresh water up to the surface, and on land another pump moves it  inland for any purposes.

If instead of having a 100 metre deep ocean source you have only shallow sea water close to shore, you can pump sea water into a high standpipe. It is then under pressure to force it through a reverse osmosis membrane, but now one needs to be able to remove the pressure periodically to get rid of accumulated salt from the  membrane.

If your location allows for a wave powered pump, you do not need to consume bagasse to pump the water, and similarly if you have wind power to pump, no need for bagasse.

If we need to get power from the sun, we can use a concentrating collector to provide a large volume of heat instead of using bagasse.
