We are going to Canada, and a bunch of my friends want me to bring some bags of Ruffles brand "All Dressed" chips, which are FULL of deliciousness, but alas, unavailable in the States.

How many bags can I bring with me without undue scrutiny from US border agents? We do intend to declare everything we bring with us, but I don't want to raise eyebrows with what would seem to us as a normal quantity, but would turn out to be an amount subject to confiscation by the authorities.

  1. You can bring $300 worth of food, liquor and tobacco back to the US if you have stayed 48 hours, even if you go to a warehouse store like Costco or Sam's Club and buy 1 case (12 bags) they will not stop or hold you, now a truck full may raise some eyebrows??

Plus there are no meat or animal products on the chips so they meet health standards, I am the same, I love Pringle's Corn Chips and they are not sold here, get my US friends to send me them, and for yourself they can be couriered to you in the US if you have a friend or relative to make the arrangements with, they are not a dangerous goods item.

  2. You can bring as many bags of chips as you want, me and my friends always took them into the states when we would go shopping, when we went to cuba/mexico/domincan/europe took them to eat tooo

    they dont care about those.

  3. The best thing is to call the office of the border you will be crossing. The limit depends on how much you pay for them; and if the quantity qualifies for wholesale distribution (then you'll pay). Also make sure that you say they are gifts.
