  1. i owned six or seven of the little 4 oz Dr. Brown's and I have five of the 8 oz ones, which I started using when she was about 3-4 months old.  (Dr. Browns are expensive so I didn't buy a ton).  I also had a dozen or so of the tiny little two ounce Nestle plastic "bottles" they gave us at the hospital as samples. We used those for the first few weeks.

We handwash all the bottles anyway so it wasn't necessary to have a lot of them. Once she finished a bottle we washed it and dried it on a bottle drying rack.  If you plan to use a dishwasher then I would get more (unless you guys run  your dishwasher every night).

As a newborn, she ate every 2 hours -- so she had 12 bottles a day.  but, you'll see that sometimes you'll prepare a bottle and she won't want it or she only wants some. you end up discarding lots of formula/expressed breastmilk.

In my opinion, the more bottles you have, the more they stack up near the sink waiting to be cleaned.

  2. Currently I own 7. I have lost a few.. thrown a few out. My daughter is 13 months and uses about 4 a day.. sometimes more.

With a newborn she may want more. I had 8 4 ounce bottles and 8 8 ounce bottles. All together I owned 16 bottles.

  3. I use drop-ins so I own 4 of the bottles. I have 4 prepared with water in them for nighttime and then during the day I do the same thing.

    I LOVE my drop-ins :)

    alot less cleaning!

  4. I have 12. usually it works out that 6 are always clean while the other 6 are in the sink. you should definitely get at least 5 or so more, you'd be amazed how fast they go and how little time to might have to clean them after they have been used!

  5. I have 14 bottles. I use anywhere from 7-10 a day. Five bottles is a good start but I recommend at least 10 bottles.

  6. We never had more then 4 in the house.  We quickly washed them out after he ate and they were clean and ready to use again.  We tended to use the same bottle all day, washed between feedings.

  7. Depends how old your baby is really, I have a 12 weeks old daughter and she has 5 bottles a day of between 5 and 6 ounces.

  8. I only had five Dr. Brown's bottles and I ended up having to wash dishes two to three times a day.  Since the Dr. Brown's bottles still use the "bad plastic" I didn't feel safe putting them in the dishwasher because of the high heat.  I loved Dr. Brown's bottles though...they worked really well for my son who had tummy troubles.  He ate every three hours the first few months.  I wish I had more of the bottles so I could of done less dishes!!  You are sweet for being so thoughtful of you friend!!

  9. I have a 1 month old and he takes around 7-8 bottles a day. The 4oz bottles are very helpful for a newborn since they will not be drinking 8oz anytime soon. I think I have about 10 4oz and 6 8oz at the moment.

I do recommend Playtex drop ins..I don't know if your friend requested the Dr. Brown's but man the drop ins are so easy to clean!

  10. i have 16- use 6-8 per day. you can have as many as you want, if you are willing to wash them constantly. i recommend getting more so you only have to wash bottles once a day :)
