I guess it kinda sounds silly but do you think over their career it is actually enough to cause some kind of health issues later...bear in mind the relative factor ie normal people might lose just as much binging on alcohol once a week

  1. As hard as the human skull is and how well protected our brains are I wouldn't think they lose that many. However, there are certain chokes that cut of blood circulation to the brain which can kill a few, however if you are knocked out then you can't fight for a certain period of time (the exact amount of time escapes me, perhaps someone can help me) and after a 3rd K.O. you are no longer allowed to fight.

  2. Probably no where near as much as all the fan boys and wanna be's do from alchahol consumed while watching it judging by all the moronic questions on here after a pay per view event.

  3. I'm not disagreeing with anybody, this is just a friendly correction.

Actually MMA fighter Sam Vasquez died from complications due to a brain injury in late November of 2007.  I'm not sure if if had a pre-existing condition prior to his last fight.

Still, deaths from MMA fights are extremely rare considering the number of boxing-related fatalities.

  4. its no worse than any other sport and it causes much less brain damage than boxing or soccer. more people die playing baseball than any other sport. a sport that involves a hard dense leather ball flying at your head at 150 mph is quite a bit more dangerous than a punch or kick. if one of those hit you in the face you win a trip to the graveyard. football is quite brutal too. a huge strong guy hitting you as hard as he can trying to knock you out so you drop the foot ball very dangerous.

  5. well matt hughes beat frank trigg in there first bout with out ever throwing a punch or kick. and he only got hit with maybe three pitty pat punches how ever they say noguierra has taken ove 1000 punches in many many many fights and a boxer takes that in five fights so I think they are ok

  6. actually you look at guys like dan severan jeremy horn and travis fulton who have all benn in over 100 fights show no sdigns on brain damage fulton has the most fights in the history of the sport with 241 and jeremy horn has 103 fights in his career and has fouhgt soem fo the best in the world so

  7. not as much as a boxer

  8. its no more dangerous than football or soccer. they really usually dont take that many successive blows to the head. and they have time to heal between fights. a boxer however...takes repeated head shots over n over n over.

the difference is, mma people know when to tap out. the ref knows when to stop it (generally speaking)

there have been no deaths in the cage. plenty in the boxing ring.

  9. maybe 25-30% more then the average person, bc alot of fighters dont realy on knocking there opponents out, u got submissions which dont require as much brute strength, easier to accomplish then kos, fedor has i think 3 or 4 knock outs in 28 fights with 16 submissions, so brain damage is still a risk just not as great as in boxing or football

  10. LOL Katana

but actually, I'm not sure on the brain cell count before the fight.

But seriously, I'm sure the constant pummeling is far worse than what a boxer endures and the lack of oxygen from the choke holds and the constant threat of a blood clot or aneurysm from the abuse makes me wonder 'why?'

Fame? not that many people know who they are

Fortune? I hear from this page the promoters are the money makers

Personal Challenge? I see this 'sport' as just another short lived bloodsport, not worth the damage for a shot at 'immortality'

    Maybe I'll ask that question......
