How many breath should take in 50m butterfly stroke?

i realy can,t hold my breath than 3 stroke during butterfly race,i realy see that diffecult ,any advice about butterfly breath and how can i improve my butterfly breath

  1. just until you run out air..... if you need more just get it. that's what i do.


  2. I am a major butterfly swimmmer, i breath every three strokes, you go way faster!!

For just 50 meters, I used to take maybe two breaths for the entire race, but that's because my stroke was poor enough that breathing created extra effort for me, and I had great lung capacity.  Of course, both the poor technique and lack of oxygen meant I'd build up a lot of muscle fatigue, lactic acid and oxygen debt, so I could never finish the deal in the 100 fly (even though I'd breathe every third stroke, usually), with the piano dropping on my back early in the last quarter of the race.

    If your stroke technique is pretty clean, the natural undulation of the body creates an opporunity to breath almost every stroke without much extra effort.

    The old rule of thumb was every other stroke cycle, but I think the key now is to work towards a more effortless stroke technique, with the exaggerated undulation, really pressing the chest down on recovery, and letting the arms kind of fall forward on the stroke, as opposed to muscling through the recovery.

  4. Michael Phelps breathes every stroke...but since we are not all Michael Phelps...i would breath every other stroke

  6. i LOVe butterfly it is my stroke my 100 time is 59:21 yea i kno!!!! i workd my *** off to get that time !! ok u need to kno that this is a sprint and u wont die sooo u need to go out hard or go home thats how i need to think okk u need to brethe every 3 or every 4 it is a sprint!! ok i ushally do every 5 butt also im a swim freak!!! have good thoughts b4 ur race and u will do fine :)

  7. what i do is i try and breath 4 down and 5 or 6 back.

    the main thing is to keep your head down!

  8. let me just say i love Phelps. =D i just go as far as i can without breathing then i go every other stroke. but sometimes i get whimpy and go everystroke. but thats just me. breathing makes my stroke fall apart BIG time.
