  1. you probably want to know how many are in a bundle, and if its like 20 then you would want to figure out how big of an area that will cover, so go buy one and lay it out on the roof and then calculate from there.

  2. Alliee Is correct.

    Good information

    Good luck

  3. It depends on the type of roofing.  Standard 3 tab asphalt shingles are 3 bundles to a square.  A square equals 100 square feet.  But dimensional asphalt shingles are usually 4 bundles to a square.  If your roof has an area of 1456 square feet, I would get 16 squares (1456 plus 10%) to allow for cuts and waste.  Buy from a store that allows for returns of unopened bundles.  Find out from the store (or sometimes the bundle itself indicates how many to a square) how many bundles equal a square and then get 16 squares.  So 3 bundles to a square means 48 bundles and 4 bundles to a square means 64 bundles.  Also, be sure that all the bundles are from the same lot.  This is important because even though the bundles are the "same" color, bundles manufactured at different times are not exactly the same and if you hold one next to the the other, you won't see a difference, but put different lot bundles on the roof, you can then usually see the difference.  The lot number is printed on the outside of each bundle.  Make sure they are all the same no matter what the salesman says.  Believe me.

  4. Alieee...is correct, you GO girl!

  5. Hi Eddy,

If I remember correctly, 3 bundles per square (10x10).

So 15 square would be 45 bundles.  Is that the actual roof size or the square footage of the house?  Roof size will be a bit more with the pitch. :)

  6. one bundle covers one 'square' which is 10' by 10' [or 100 sq. ft.] so 1500 square feet will need 15 bundles. [If memory serves].  Advice: use the best shingles you can buy if you plan on staying in the home a long time.  OR: use the best ones if you plan on selling soon as they are a great selling point for the buyer to consider.  The best only cost a little more and cost NO more for labor to install them.  Use felt paper under them, absolutely.  Don't be cheap and put shingles directly over plywood roofing.  Consider "architectural" shingles to add more style, durability, and RESALE VALUE to your home.  It does matter!  I'm not sorry I went with architectural.  Dave.

  7. Mr Knownothin is adequately named, there are usually three or four bundles of shingles to equal a square, not one.
