Metro (the county bus system) has a couple hundred.  Then there is the city of LA's DASH bus, and several neighboring cities (Santa Monica, Culver City, etc.) have bus systems that serve bordering parts of the city.

just to name the major transit companies that also operate

bus lines then almost every independent city in Los Angeles

has sometype of local transit (El monte, Arcarida, Baldwin Park)
