  2. Probably very few.  Fire is a natural part of the ecology and forests are adapted to the point where periodic fires are essential to their renewal.  Most forest fires and bushfires are ignited by lightning.

I don't think anyone knows.  Even those accidentally started by campers etc are not neccesarily lit by arsonists.  A lot are caused by very dry tinder like grass due to heat and sometimes years of sun and no rain, then all it takes is a bolt of lightening, or a piece of broken glass in the sun.

    I think that when the authorities cannot explain the start of a fire, "arsonist" is the easy answer.

    My opinion is that perhaps it is in reality no more that 3/10 which is still 3/10 too many.
