I'm trying to cut back, but have to go to a meal at a chinese on Friday, i love chicken fried rice and curry sauce but I know that will be really bad for calories. How many are in chicken chow mein? What are other low cal alternatives?

  1. When I was pregnant with my second child I ate chicken chow mein like it was going out of style.  I didn't want to gain a lot of weight, so sometimes I ate it steamed.  Try it.  It's actually a different taste--less mushy, but you might like it.  Put some duck sauce in it and it's not bad at all.  You can get anything steamed.

Certainly chicken fried rice is LOADED with calories, but I don't know why you can't get almost whatever else you want steamed and add a little curry sauce or white sauce (better than brown) on the side.

  2. You'd have to find out from your favorite restaurant.  without knowing exactly what they put into it, there is no way to tell.  I know that Panda Express has some great low cal dishes [not orange chicken, though, sorry] and you can get a 2 entree dinner with 1 side of half rice half steamed veggies with black pepper chicken and green bean chicken OR broccoli beef for 490 calories.  It is easily enough to feed two people, but great for a big eater who wants to watch calories. I like to break that meal down into 2 smaller meals.  Eating smaller amounts more regularly {I eat a tea saucer size meal every 3-4 hours} keeps your metabolism even, and your energy running smoothly [no need for the afternoon junk food binge for a quick pick me up]  Just look for the best flavor and quantity for the calories you have alotted for that meal.  Then you'll be full, and not feel deprived.  The weight will either be maintained, or you'll start losing weight if you need to.  Good luck, and always ask for the nutrition facts so you're informed!!!
