How many calories do you burn for swimming one lap ?

Michael Phellips  burns 13000 calories a day, approx. he swims 168 laps split into 2 sessions 4200 meters in the morning and 4200 meters in the afternoon so if we divide 13000 by 168 we get about 79 calories per lap for Michael your not him so you would be different I would say 60 sounds reasonable. now that is one length of a 50M pool most pools you see are 25 yards.  Less than 1/2 of an Olympic pool

    That would be swimming at a very vigorous pace


  2. they don't really break it down into 'laps' - usually into 'time'

    swimming at a constant normal rate (freestyle), a 120lb women burns around 700-800 calories an hour, give or take a few..

    and obviously, the harder the stroke (breast, butterfly), the more calories are burned.

    now if you could calculate the amount of time it takes for you to swim 1 lap, then you could calculate approx. how much you burn per lap, although depending on the length of the pool, i doubt it would be anything significant..
