How many calories/ what food would a african living in poverty eat?

How many calories would a african in poverty eat?

(connecting it to the 2 pieces of sandwich bread that jews in ghettos during ww2 ate)

I don't know how many calories, but common crops in Africa are sorghum and cassava. They are both drought tolerant and can grow better in the Sahel than rice or maize.

Unfortunately, they most likely eat a sort of watery gruel or rice porridge (my cousin works in the Peace Corps).  Adults eat around 400-500 calories a day if they are lucky.  Children receive even less (250-300 cal/day) It is a very sad and unfortunate situation.  This country (USA) on the other hand wastes tons of food on a daily basis.
