  1. 3 miles isn't even worth it calorie wise. A VERY rough estimte per mile of riding at a good pace is about 30. So 3 miles about 100 cal.

Like someone mentioned there are many factors that go into a more accurate calulation. Weight, phyical condition, time and effort are biggest factors.

  2. There are a number of pretty good calorie estimators on the internet.  A simple one is linked below.

For your example, let's say you weigh 115 lbs. and rode the 3 miles in about 12 minutes on a flat course with no wind.  This would be about 100 calories.  Riding one-third the distance at the same speed would be one-third the calories.

Better calculators distinguish between male/female, drafting/non-drafting, count for hill climbing and more.  The website MapMyRide referenced below is able to base your calorie expenditure based on the actual route you rode.

All of these are estimates because there are many other factors to consider: temperature and humidity for example, factor into how hard your body has to work to achieve a certain speed.

  3. depends on intensity and weight of bike and its efficiency. Other that that, the answer is not-enough.
