How many cans of paint do I need to cover about 400 square feet of wall?

  1. Most gallons of paint will cover about 300 feet to get good coverage. Cans say sometimes up to 400 but you gotta' buy really good paint to get that kind of mileage. You also will have to consider whether or not you are going to use a color that doesn't have much opacity, like red or dark blues or purple. Dark colors need either a tinted primer and or several coats. Example, let's say the room will be red. Primers only come in white so even it the store tints the primer with the exact same mix they will use in your paint base, it will only be a dark pink at best. That's okay. What you want is something that is similar in color that will block out what's on the wall now. It will make you "red" paint cover better when you get to that phase.


  2. Should be about 6 litres of paint for two coats. I would try to get it done with 5 litres unless it is a custom color. If you need a bit more you can buy extra.
