Amount depends on whether it has rear air.  The big concern is that it came from the factory with R12 which is no longer available legally.  You should not mix R12 with R134.  I don't think converting is something that a DIY should do.

I have a 92 camaro and it came with r 12. Your van prolly came with the same. I actually went to wall mart and they have a change over kit for about $25. You'll have to go to a ac repair shop to get that old r 12 out, but they actually pay you for it. The kit I had came with a installation cd. It took about five minutes to do and my ac works as good as ever.
